Shirt of the week for 3 March 2017 – Cheeky Brazilans!

Shirt of the week for 03/03/17. An absolute belter of a shirt this week, pure class, manufactured by Topper. I’m sure you will immediately guess the team, but can you spot where the controversy lies?

This is of course the home shirt of Brazil from 1986, and was worn a the World Cup of the same year. The Canarinho topped their group but were knocked out by France on penalties in the quarterfinals.

To spot the controversy you’ll need to look at the close up photo of the badge. The cheeky Brazilian national team sneaked a sponsors logo onto their national badge, the logo of “CafĂ© Do Brasil” just alongside the image of the Jules Rimet Trophy. They actually got away with playing in the shirt for 2 games, strictly against FIFAs rules. Somebody with eagle eyes spotted it and it was soon removed for the remainder of the tournament, though stayed, barely noticed, on the fans replica shirts.
